THE month of August every year is usually a big month for the Christian community with many churches using this month to hold several events including church conferences.

The Christian Marching Church was not to be outdone as they also held their own conference which ran from August 17 to 20.

This conference was for youths drawn from the Christian Marching Church’s Manicaland/Masvingo Region and part of Marondera.

A lot of people may be surprised to hear for the first time about the existence of this denomination, but the Regional Superintendent of the church, Reverend Marufu, said the church has been in existence since June 1956, which makes it 61 years old.

More surprises were to await this writer after he enquired about how this church was formed.

The Regional Superintendent explained that this church came sprouted from the Salvation Army Church.

Chitenderu Village in Nyazura, which is usually quiet, was a hive of activity with hundreds of  youths gathering to worship their Lord and hear from the word of God.

Even villagers from surrounding areas joined in as they could not resist the electric atmosphere created by this four-day event.

The conference was being held at Nyamidzi Secondary School and Christian Marching Church youth director responsible for the Manicaland/Masvingo region, Evangelist Eliot Mucharuona, and his executive did a wonderful jobb in planning and execution.

Their conference theme was drawn from 1 Peter 57 which says: “Casting all your care upon him (Jesus Christ); for he careth for you.”

The youths themselves took turns to preach and teach the word.

After the service the youth executive said: “We would like to thank you for your time you took in attending our youth conference.

‘‘It was such an honour having such an honourable member at our gathering.  Thank you for the wise words you inserted in our minds and hearts.  We learned a lot from your teaching .  . .  May God bless you and help you preach (His) word to all. We wish to be with you in our next events.”
