TWO gun-wielding robbers last Saturday pounced on an unsuspecting taxi driver and threatened him with death before driving off in his vehicle.

Shupai Mudari (47) of Sakubva managed to grab the pistol the suspects had in their possession before they had shoved him out of the vehicle along Magamba Road in Mutare.

Mudari later reported the robbery to the police.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the robbery.

“One of the robbers approached Shupai who was parked at Mudzviti Rank around 6pm and asked him to take him to Fairbridge Park. They passed through Meikles Park where they picked the second accused. One of the two accused sat at the back, while the other one occupied the front passenger seat.

“Shupai turned along Shelly Road in Fairbridge Park and parked opposite a black gate. One of the accused produced a pistol and pointed it on him. They ordered him to keep quiet before pushing him out of the vehicle, a Honda Fit, Registration Number AEY2530.

“He, however, managed to grab the pistol from the robbers and vanished into the dark. The two suspects drove off along Magamba Road,” said Insp Chananda.

The two are still at large and police are appealing to members of the public with information leading to their arrest to contact their nearest police station.
