A RUSAPE nurse who attempted to rape a Form Six pupil after she had turned down his love proposal has been arrested and brought before the courts.

Lameck Tawanda Useni (35), who is stationed at Makoni (Rugoyi) Rural Hospital, was asked not to plead when he appeared before magistrate, Ms Patience Ururu Madondo.

Useni was granted $100 bail. He is being represented by Mr Leonard Chigadza of Chigadza and Associates.

Public prosecutor, Mr Roy Weja, told the court that the suspect went to the 19-year-old girl’s house and proposed love for the second time but she declined his advances.

He then attempted to force himself on her but she freed herself by biting the suspect on the shoulder.

“Sometime in 2018, Useni proposed love to the complainant but she refused. On 13 May 2019 at around 7 pm Useni went to the girl’s residence and met a domestic worker whom he asked to go and call the girl.

“The girl told the domestic worker to lie to Useni that she was not around. After the domestic worker had gone, the suspect proceeded to the dining room where the complainant was seated on the sofa.

“He sat next to her and told her that he loved her and again she turned down his proposal. Useni then attempted to force himself on the girl, telling her he will use protection or some pills. The girl bit him on his right shoulder and managed to escape. She went to her bedroom and locked herself inside.

“The suspect started knocking at the door. The complainant phoned her friend who is in Gweru and informed him about the matter and was advised to report the case. On 14 May, she went to school and reported the matter to her teacher and a police report was made leading to the arrest of the suspect,” said Mr Weja.

Ms Madondo adjourned the matter to 3 June for trial.
