NEW: Manicaland tops malaria cases Manicaland Province accounted for one third of the nationwide cumulative total of reported malaria cases

MANICALAND Province recorded the highest number of malaria case reported across the country, amounting to one third of the nationwide cumulative total, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

 

According to the ministry’s Weekly Disease Surveillance Report for week ending February 19, 2 617 malaria cases were reported during the week under review, with Manicaland accounting for the highest with 679 followed by Mashonaland Central Province (673).

 

However, there were no deaths recorded in Manicaland, with Mutoko District in Mashonaland East Province and Guruve District in Mashonaland Central Province reporting one each.

 

The Weekly Disease Surveillance Report indicates that of the reported cases, 299 were under the age of five.

 

Cumulative figures for reported malaria cases nationwide stand at 17 623 and 39 deaths.
