THE Zion Christian Church (ZCC) is mobilising financial and material support for its members who survived the recent bus accident which claimed 39 lives amid pledges by other individuals and organisations to adopt more children who were orphaned after the national disaster.

Apart from children who were adopted by the ZCC through its social responsibility arm – the Rugare Community Relief (RUCORS) – as well as families getting financial and material support after losing their breadwinners, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senatoe Monica Mutsvangwa, Chief Raymond Saurombe and Chimanimani East legislator Cde Joshua Sacco pledged to adopt some of the children among those who lost their parents in the accident.

Speaking during a memorial service held for the deceased persons at Ngangu ground in Chimanimani today, ZCC leader Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi heartily thanked all stakeholders that contributed and continue contributing towards easing the burden for survivors of the disaster.

“It is encouraging and comforting to note that we have people who have a good heart and can sacrifice their resources to help others. I really want to thank all stakeholders and fellow churches as well as individuals who have been and are still assisting us as a church as we struggle to come to terms with this disaster,” said Bishop Mutendi.

13 people are still admitted in hospital since the accident occurred.

Government declared the accident a national disaster and assisted with coffins, transport to ferry the deceased for burial as well as medical equipment that include metal implants for survivors during their stay in hospital.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) worked tirelessly as part of the rescue team when the accident occurred while medical staff in different hospitals worked overtime in providing medical assistance.

Higher Life Fondation provided food, medicine, and accommodation for relatives that were visiting survivors admitted in hospital.

Zimbabwe Senior Citizens Trust donated two wheel chairs for those that were left crippled after the accident.
