CDE Joseph Mugomba was on Sunday elected Zanu PF Makoni District Coordinating Committee secretary for youth affairs.

Cde Mugomba was elected to fill the vacancy left by Cde Stanley Sakupwanya who is now Manicaland provincial youth chairman.

He shrugged off stiff competition from four other contestants to land the post in an election monitored by the provincial youth league executive.

Speaking after the election, Cde Mugomba said he is humbled after having been chosen to lead youths in the district.

He said he will work tirelessly to make sure that the revolutionary party grows its membership in Makoni.

“I am happy to be elected the party youth leader. We will work together with our senior leaders who will give us guidance and direction to drive the party forward.

“Makoni District is predominantly agro-based and we will strive to push for the participation of young people in the agricultural sector. The era of looking for jobs is over. We must be masters of our own destinies by creating employment for ourselves,” he said.
Cde Mugomba encouraged youths to set up cooperatives and associations for them to effectively market their products, not only in Zimbabwe, but internationally.

“Youths in Makoni must not be idle, but actively participate in all economic activities.

‘‘President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 is achievable when we all pull in one direction.

“Youths will be mobilised to register and vote overwhelmingly for President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF in the next year’s harmonised elections. We will have programmes to orient youngsters on the country’s rich history and preserve the benefits of the liberation struggle,” said Cde Mugomba.

Cde Sakupwanya said youths in the district must galvanise themselves and work for their upliftment and propel Zanu PF to dizzy heights.

“As the provincial executive, we are happy that youths freely chose their leader. It aligns with the mantra that the party should be active on the grassroots. This is what our President always preaches,” said Cde Sakupwanya.
