THE late Mbuya Sauti confided in one of the traditional healers she worked with she believed she was dying for the reason that she was being punished by her ‘ancestors’ over dereliction of duty to assist people.

The popular granny was laid to rest last Wednesday at Dangamvura Cemetery.

Zimbabwe National Practitioners Association’s vice of the vice president for Manicaland, Obert Nkomo, revealed in an interview that Mbuya Sauti felt she was losing a spiritual warfare.

Mbuya Sauti was a member of the association.

“During her last days she told me that, ‘Vakuru vangu pamwe varingundipunisher kuti handisi kugona kuita basa ravo nemazvo asi ndirikuriritira vana vangu.’ She believed she was being punished and it seems she had lost hope. So I told her that her job was to advise us on the traditional medicines to use. She was our advisor in Manicaland. She was reluctant to divulge much except about stomach and leg pains. She was a good woman who was caring,” he said.

Mbuya Sauti’s uncle, Jasper Hlabiso said: “She fell sick for about two months. We realised that her stomach was swollen. We took her to Mutare Provincial Hospital and she was given an inhaler. After a few weeks, some relatives phoned me saying her health had deteriorated. She was admitted on Friday (two days before her death). I tried talking to her but she was struggling to speak. I went back home only to receive a phone call early Sunday morning from her daughter Tambu that she was no more.”

She left behind three children namely, Vimbai, Tambudzai and Yvonne as well as several grand children.
