MUTARE Boys’ High School rugby outfit, fondly referred to as Shumbas by many who associate with its traditions, is eyeing the inaugural Manicaland Rugby Board Under-20 League title when they engage Spartans in the final round of league fixtures tomorrow (Saturday) at their school home ground.
MBHS is on top of the Manicaland Rugby Board Under-20 League log with a four-point lead to second placed Mutare Sports Club, who are on nine points, with one match before the curtain comes down.
MBHS coach, Casper “Belt” Bandi, expressed confidence of successfully wrapping up the league title this weekend, and applauded the support that the team is getting from the school.
“As the coach of Mutare Boys’ High School, our chances of being crowned champions are very high. We need to win against Spartans this weekend. With the way we are playing and the confidence we have after beating Mutare Sports Club Under-20, I think nothing will stop us from walking to the podium as the champions.
“We had a good start of the league, with all players having a good mindset, and the support we are getting from the school head, Phillip Padhuze is amazing.
“The headmaster always find time to come and watch the games and this motivates the boys,” said Bandi.
He said in their match against Spartans, they will be taking no prisoners.
“We are sure we will have the job done on Saturday. We are going to run riot on Spartans Under-20. There is no room for complacency and my players are aware of that,” he said.
Tomorrow’s matches start at 10.50am and expected to end at 2:30pm.
The prize presentation ceremony will take place 30 minutes thereafter.
After that, provincial senior men’s Probables will be up against Possibles in an encounter aimed at entertaining those in attendance.
