A MUTARE socialite, Nathan Manyuchi, was recently dragged to court by his wife over his failure to support his family.

Manyuchi and his wife Nacade Nyamurundira appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato, with the latter applying for the maintenance of their children aged seven and four.

Mr Chipato ordered Manyuchi to pay $19 500 as monthly maintenance to Nyamurundira.

Nyamurundira had claimed $68 000, plus a separate US$1 040 per month for the children’s school fees.

“We are married Your Worship, but he moved out of our matrimonial home in March and went back to his first wife.

He is no longer taking care of the children. His first wife is now enjoying everything at the expense of my children.

“I had to relocate from Greenside as l could no longer afford the expensive rentals,” said Nyamurundira.

In response, Manyuchi said he could only afford to pay $10 000 per child.

“I cannot afford to pay what she is asking for as l am no longer employed as a managing director.

“I am now a small-scale farmer who gets about US$250 per month. My lifestyle has changed.

“I even have fees arrears at my children’s schools,” Manyuchi said, adding that he wants the children to be enrolled at cheaper schools.

But Nyamurundira argued that her husband was lying about his fortunes, adding that he had recently offered her money in exchange for intimacy.

“He is lying. He can afford to pay what l am asking for.

“Only last month he offered me US$1000 for a one night stand at a local hotel.

“That is the money I used to relocate to Murambi where I am now staying,” fumed Nyamurundira.

Manyuchi dismissed Nyamurindira’s claims, saying they were full of malice.
