AS the Covid-19 pandemic continues to disrupt lives across the world, former Mutare Sports Club and Zimbabwe Sables rugby star Martin Mangongo has shared a special message with his fans.

Mangongo, who is plying his trade in Poland at SKRA in the Super 1 National League, has urged Zimbabweans to abide by the recommendations from healthy authorities.

“We must follow all the health authorities’ recommendations. I am looking forward to playing again but for now, the priority is for everyone to stay safe and healthy. We must remain positive and stay home. Let us be safe. There is a time for everything under the heavens. This too shall come to pass,” he said.

Mangongo joined SKRA from Mutare Sports Club last year.

He said their league in Poland has been greatly affected by the pandemic.

“Poland has reported so many cases of Covid-19. We had just started the second half of the season with 11 games yet to be played.  We played our last game a month ago. The league has been put on hold. It is going to be very hard to decide the winner of the league since the remaining games could have changed the log standing,” said Mangongo.

Mangongo also expressed concern over the safety of his family back home.

“This is my main worry but God will take care of them. It is not the best feeling so l keep them in my prayers daily,” he said.

Club SKRA is currently on fourth position out of 12 teams.

Mangongo admitted that it was not easy to break into the first eleven as a new arrival.

“I have adjusted well. I first struggled with language, being the only black player playing here. It was tough to prove my worth and get a starting jersey. My best game was when we played Juvenia Krakov. I scored the only try for the team and we won 13-12,” he said.

He recalls the game against Lodz as his bad game.

“I really do not have bad games but if I am to choose, I would say the game against Lodz was not so good. I just struggled under the high ball that day due to cold weather. It was -6 degrees Celsius. Otherwise I have had a good season. I have become close with Taniela Halaifonia (Tonga),  Peet Vorster( New Zealand)  and Violet I Kepu (South Africa). These guys have really encouraged me,” he said.
