POPULAR music promoter and businessman, Laston Murerwa, fondly known in the music and business circles as ‘GP’ has broken new ground and has spread his tentacles to Mutare where he now owns a motor spares joint.
The name ‘GP’ Murerwa is popular among arts circles especially between 2000 and 2010 when he worked with several artistes, chief among them veteran sungura artiste, Alick Macheso with whom he co-owned Last Power Studios.
Murerwa, who has been for the past decade residing in Limpopo Province of South Africa recently opened a spares, accessories and fitment branch in Mutare.
He told Weekender Entertainment that he feels good to be back home as the director of Last Power Sales, which has two branches in Zimbabwe and 16 in South Africa.
He hails from Bonda area in Mutasa District.
“It is a beautiful feeling to be back home and establish a business in my home province. It has been a long journey, especially after spending so many years in South Africa where I also established several businesses. In the arts sector it was a pleasure working with artistes like Macheso and Makhadzi.
“I am glad that we have settled well in Mutare, and we have grown big and wide in the region, having our wings expanded.
“We are glad to have new customers in Mutare, including, of course new and old artistes,” he said.
“Having vast experience in the arts sector, I think it is advisable for creatives to establish businesses that generate income to augment their gains from the music industry.
“Rainy days will always be there, but it is imperative to foresee it and have a backup plan,” he said.
