Fasting: The ultimate diet

Fasting brings a welcome physiological rest for the digestive tract and the central nervous system. When there is no food to digest it needs only a minimum of energy to carry on with the other functions.

Fasting allows the body to mobilise its defense systems, especially the digestive tracts, kidneys, lungs the gall bladder, liver etc, while the blood stream can concentrate on healing affected parts, a  process of recycling the human body to its original state.

When we fast we give the body a chance to heal simply because the building blocks go to work on rejuvenation as they are not pre-occupied with the daily routine of the busy digestive tract.

Therefore fasting is the ultimate diet.

Once craving for food goes away, the mind and the body seems to stop craving for things that lead to emotions like envy, anger, jealousy, greed and all negative ambitions.

It also makes you a human dynamo, giving you enough energy and time to be in a superior state of health.

You begin to achieve entire control of body and mind.

In Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to give charity in abundance. Islam calls for justice where two thirds of humanity lives in utter poverty.

Fasting is a toll which opens the eyes of mankind. Eyes that have been shut for so long or the shame and agony that grips the lives of more than six million people living n poverty especially in the drought plagued African continent.

We are fortunate we can break our fast, but this starving brings torment to their mortal body, a constant fie in the belly this is why if Muslim does not fast in the month of Ramadan he has to compensate and feed an entire family three meals a day or give an equivalent amount in charity to the poor.

This is the time to develop a great sense of humility, compassion, generosity and forgiveness.

Muslims worldwide give huge amounts of cash and charity in this month to eradicate and alleviate poverty.

On the final 30th day of fasting gifts are exchanged and relatives get together for celebration bringing an end to the fasting. A compulsory charity called “FITRAH” has to be gifted to the poor.

I take this opportunity to wish all Muslims a wonderful Ramadan.
