A ROW over cattle is tearing a Penhalonga family apart.

The dispute runs so deep that the feuding parties have approached the courts seeking recourse.

John Mangenje of Penhalonga is now facing stock theft charges after being accused of stealing 30 beasts by his aunt, Mercy Mangenje.

Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi presided over the matter, while Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza prosecuted.

The court heard that on an unknown date, but during the period between 2018 and this year, John unlawfully took 30 cattle from Mangenje Farm in Chief Mutasa’s area which belonged to Mercy.

However, John argued that Mercy never possessed a stock card as proof that at some point she owned the cattle.

“The only stock card available is in the name of Godwin Mangenje, who is my uncle,” said John, adding: “She only believed that her late husband had cattle, but she never saw them.

John was granted $40 000 bail.
