A SELF-PROCLAIMED prophet who was on the run after he allegedly used juju on a woman and sexually abused her in her matrimonial bedroom was arrested and has since been arraigned before the courts.

Tinashe Nyawata was last week not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi.

He is facing rape charges.

Nyawata was remanded in custody to January 27.

The Weekender learnt that Nyawata and his accomplice would mix and burn red cloths, razor blades, snuff and zumbani leaves for use on their victim.

Soon after one of their rituals last year, their 25-year-old victim of Hobhouse, Mutare, is said to have chased her husband away from their bedroom.

She would ask the husband to give the “prophets” some privacy for the “procedure.”

It is alleged that on several occasions immediately after the rituals, the victim would lose control of her senses and would become violent towards her husband.

She would destroy household property and chase her husband away.

The two men would then take advantage of the absence of the woman’s husband to abuse her under the guise of exorcising evil spirits from her.

When the husband finally sought the intervention of a spiritual healer, the two ‘prophets’ got wind of it and vanished into thin air.

“At some point, I had to sleep in a separate room after my wife told me that she was being cleansed by the two, especially Tinashe. At times Tinashe would sleep over in my bedroom. They retarded my wife using an intoxicating concoction.

“After inhaling fumes from the burning concoction, my wife would start hallucinating and calling Tinashe her husband.

“These two fake prophets tormented my family. They even brainwashed my wife to the extent that she chased me away from our matrimonial home. She would become violent upon seeing me.

“I am a God-fearing person who does not believe in most of this stuff.

“ I do not know how my wife met them and what kind of assistance she wanted from them. I went through hell for two months before approaching Madzibaba Nzira for a solution. I feared losing my wife and marriage. My wife has since recovered and says the two men were determined to push us apart,” he said.
