AT least 30 secondary schools in Chipinge District have received furniture worth $2 million purchased through devolution funds. This comes after 20 more schools received furniture from Chipinge Rural District Council in July.
Speaking during the hand-over ceremony last Saturday, Chipinge District Schools Inspector, Mr Richard Gabaza said the disbursement of furniture will help the schools to observe physical distancing in line with Covid-19 regulations.
“Government is compelling schools to be in compliance with Covid-19 precautionary measures.
‘‘We are grateful for the gesture and hope beneficiaries will make good use of the furniture,” said Mr Gabaza.
Speaking at the same occasion, Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation and Science and Technology Development Deputy Minister Raymore Machingura said the education sector should strive for innovations so as to promote home-grown solutions in line with Government’s devolution agenda.
“We are happy with this development as it ensures the promotion of innovations in schools.
‘‘My ministry is grooming students to be innovative, industrious and creative so that we use our own resources for our development,” he said.
Chipinge District Development Coordinator, Mr William Mashava and the local authority’s chief executive officer Mr Blessing Mamvosha said the development dovetails with Government’s thrust of ensuring access to quality education.
Said Mr Mamvosha: “This furniture was procured using devolution funds. This is in line with the National Development Startegy1 which seeks to enhance economic, political and social development in the country as we move towards attaining Vision 2030.
“Our community should take full advantage of existing development structures to spearhead progress,” he said.
