Did I exist before I was born? What happens to me after I die? Does God really have a plan for me? What is it and how can I learn about it? This concern of knowing what is God’s plan and how we can best live it is on the minds of people around world. There have been countless attempts to answer this question. The truth is that there is only 1 God which means there can only be 1 plan He has for us. As missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we have good news to share. We know that God does have a plan for us, we know how and where we can learn about it, and we know how to help you know for yourself. We hope this article helps answer some of your questions. Please also feel free to contact us directly, our information is at the end of this article, so we can answer any more questions you may have.

Q: Where did I come from?

A: Your life did not begin with birth, nor does not end with death. You came from a “pre-earth life,” a place where we all lived with God and Jesus Christ, in spirit form. They knew us all by name, and they loved us. There we learned God’s plan for us and accepted it.

Q: Why did we come to this earth?

A: One of the main purposes of this life is to learn to make right choices. God wants us to choose the right. But he wants us to make that choice ourselves. So he gave us a conscience so we can tell right from wrong. An important part of God’s plan was for us to come to the earth and receive a physical body. God planned this earth life to give us a chance to learn and gain experience. We are mortal and will all die. And we are subject to temptation, and we all sometimes commit sin. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we can overcome death and sin.

Q:
Why do bad things happen to good people?

A: Because some people choose to do evil. When we choose evil we suffer and cause others around us to suffer. When you choose to follow Jesus, you grow in wisdom and character. If you follow His Gospel you will be able to experience joy even in times of trial, and you can face life’s challenges with a spirit of peace. Sometimes God does not remove our trials, but he makes them easier to bear.

Q:
What happens when we make mistakes?

A: No one is perfect and we all make mistakes every day. When you make wrong choices and commit sin, you separate yourself  from God to some degree. It causes you guilt and shame. You cannot overcome this guilt and shame by yourself. To receive the Lord’s help you exercise faith him, and trust him. Then you must repent, be baptised, and choose to follow His teachings. All that seems unfair in life can be made right through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the mercy of our Heavenly Father.

Q: Where will I go after this life?

A: The physical death that we see is really the beginning of a new phase in our Heavenly Father’s plan. When you die, your spirit leaves your body, but you continue being you and your memories of this life will remain with you. You go to a place called the spirit world—a place of rest and learning. A place where those who lived and died never learning about Jesus Christ can have the chance. God loves all his children and denies none to come unto him. In the spirit world everyone has the opportunity to take the chance to follow Him if they desire.

Q:
What about Resurrection and Judgment?

A: One of the greatest gifts God gave to His children is the resurrection. When Jesus died on the cross, His spirit went to the spirit world. Three days later, His spirit reunited with His body in a glorified and perfected state. Everyone who is born will be resurrected. After you are resurrected, you will go before God to be judged according to your works and the desires of your heart.
