HELLO there folks and happy birthday to a good friend of mine who had a birthday last Tuesday whooo woo! We are now in the fourth month of the year and time is moving. I hope you are all on target with your half yearly plans.

This week, I will discuss with you an issue that many men wonder about, but are too embarrassed to ask about and that is: “Can they be intimate with their wives when they are on their period?” No need to be shy guys, this is a common question asked by both men and women alike. So today, I will try and answer all parts of that question as best I can.

First, anytime bodily fluids are coming out of someone, it is uncomfortable. Blood coming out from the privates is naturally uncomfortable.

For most women, periods take up three to seven days each month for around four decades. This time should be a period when men leave their woman’s private parts alone for that period of the time.

However, there are many reasons why a couple may want intimacy during the time a woman is on her period; may be the day of one’s wedding; or maybe the couple where away from each other for sometime and on coming together she starts her period, or maybe the wife had a baby sometime back and intimacy has been absent for a while as she heals, then when she is finally ready, her period starts; or maybe the couple simply enjoy being intimate all the time. Whatever the reason is for couples wanting intimacy, the answer is; yes it is possible.

There is nothing wrong with being intimate while a woman is on her period, but there are some details about this situation you (and she) might want to know first:
Background to menstruation

A period marks the end of the body’s monthly attempt to get pregnant. Awaiting a fertilised egg, the uterus developed a thickened lining to keep this potential occupant happy. If an egg doesn’t get fertilised, the body can’t sustain this special womb, so hormone levels drop and the lining is shed. The bleeding is because there is a blood supply that went into those tissues, and it bleeds until the tissue comes out enough and the blood vessels start to close off.

What it feels like
Women may already be in a considerable amount of pain/cramping during their period, so intimacy may seem like it would add to that. Intimacy during a woman’s period will not add to the cramp, but will add to the discomfort. However, any man who claims to love his wife would not insist on putting her through more pain or discomfort than she is already going through.

HIV/STI’s
Because there is blood involved, partners should be cautious about HIV, but they should be cautious about those anyway during intimacy because exchange of potentially infectious fluid, including blood, is always a possibility.
About the blood

Women can vary widely in how much blood comes out of them during their period, but it is generally not that much except for the first one or two days.

Women bleed a very small amount over the course of their periods. It might seem like it is a lot, but it is two shot glasses basically. Believe it or not, you might not see any blood during the intimacy, even with penetrative intimacy, but the next day it may be heavy.
What the blood should (and shouldn’t) look like.

If you want to be a good partner, please take note of any blood you do see because there is a difference between period blood and other bleeding that could be problematic.

Period blood, because it is been in the uterus a while and includes other tissue cells, is generally dark and thick and may be clotted. If there is an injury in her privates, it is really bright red blood. Period blood doesn’t generally look like the blood you’d see from a cut.

Can a woman get pregnant on her period
Yes, she can! You can absolutely get a woman pregnant if you become intimate with her on her period. While the period is the least likely time for a woman to get pregnant (because the egg is gone), sperm could wait for the next egg to be released. Sperm can stay in a woman’s body for seven days. So if a woman has a short cycle and you have sex with her near the end of it, she can become pregnant.

So what is Marriage Dr’s thoughts on this? Well, I say, men leave you women’s private area alone when she is on her period. It is a time for her to be loved and comforted during that time instead of being intimate with her. This is the only time a woman has to rest in a month, so at least allow her that. However, if she is okay with it, go ahead, but please be careful.
