AFRO-jazz artiste Bob Nyabinde will serenade Cyclone Idai survivors in a free concert slated for Chimanimani Hotel tomorrow (Saturday).

Nyabinde, who is a veteran lyricist and gifted guitarist, said he was ready to uplift the spirits of the survivors through music.

“Music is therapeutic and I hope that my performance will help ease the emotional trauma that the survivors are going through as a result of the loss of lives, property and livelihoods. I am going there to uplift their spirits with the message of hope and encouragement so that they do not despair,” he said.

The concert is the brainchild of Eastern Legends Society in partnership with Chimanimani Hotel.

Eastern Legends is a group of business people and professionals who are involved in philanthropic works as well as economic and social development in Manicaland.

Commenting on the initiative, Eastern Legends committee member Richard Mvududu said, “This is part of our effort to support and encourage the rebuilding of lives and livelihoods in the Chimanimani community.

“In addition to the concert tomorrow, we will also handover to some of the worst affected families, goods that were donated by our friends in the United Kingdom.”

He said, “Once the music starts playing the people will be moved and the healing process will kick in. We hope to re-energise the community through music so that they can start to look to the future with hope which allows them to focus on rebuilding their lives.”

The Eastern Legends Society has a number of programs that are designed to address the development needs of marginalised communities.

The concert and handover is a follow up initiative to the society’s initial donation of emergency relief items made in the immediate aftermath of Cyclone such as 1 000 25-litre water containers, blankets, clothes, water and mealie-meal.
