WHEN our dear sisters are crowned the best among a bevy of beauties, we ululate in celebration as we anticipate a bright future filled with more success and happiness.
In fact, clinching a beauty pageant title under normal circumstances is expected to open some doors for the winner and signal a better life in future, if not ever after.
Apart from the monetary and material prizes that come with winning a beauty pageant, endorsement deals normally accompany the success of winning a modelling contest.
In fact, history is littered with numerous examples of beauty pageant queens who earned a living by advertising various products and services after earning recognition through winning some modelling contests.
But somehow, it is strange that the script is different when it comes to our beautiful city.
Judging by what we have seen in the past up to now, it appears winning a beauty pageant has become a curse for our dear sisters blessed with the looks.
Yours Truly remembers that other former beauty queen who later passed on after a lengthy period of insanity when she literally lived on the streets of our beautiful city.
During the days she won the pageant, only the rich and the famous would dare get near her, let alone engage her in a conversation, but somehow things turned nasty as she later lost her marbles and started feeding from the dustbins.
She is not the only one.
There is this other former beauty queen who was also blessed with looks. It was no major surprise to see our sister of mixed blood winning the prestigious modelling contest as she outsmarted competitors on the ramp.
Many will remember her from the days she used to stay in that other medium density suburb with a name similar to that of a state in one of the world’s super powers.
But alas, things turned nasty again as she suddenly found herself drowning in alcoholism and drug abuse.
This is surely the least we had expected of her when she clinched the coveted local beauty pageant title.
The list does not end here!
There is another one of mixed blood again who also used to attract many men of questionable sexual morals during her days in the fast lane.
From her teenage days, no one doubted her exquisiteness, splendour and attractiveness. No wonder she went on to clinch the coveted crown at a local beauty pageant.
But as years passed on, the young girl turned into a party animal.
She also became so generous to the extent that even some street urchins ended up feasting on her.
Just like her counterparts before her, she smokes cigarettes and takes drugs like there is no tomorrow.
Blabber will surely dish up more from the list of beauty queens who have proved that there is surely some form of a curse in those pageant crowns.
