FOR anyone planning to propose this year, we get it, it’s stressful. First, you have to make sure you and your partner are really ready, then you have to find the perfect ring to pop the question with, and then, most importantly, you must pick a place for it to all go down.

There are endless options when it comes to places to propose, but some definitely stick out more than others.

Nyanga — World’s view

Many people visit this place because it provides a beautiful wide view that covers a very long distance. It is at this place that one has a great view of all the places within the 200km radius especially during the night when one can see lights from towns that are approximately 200km away.

This lies about 120km from Mutare. Adventurous couples can plan their engagement around the beautiful natural landscape, engaging in all of the exciting outdoor activities in Nyanga.

Chipinge — Chirinda forest

It covers 950 hectares of evergreen forest on the slopes of Mt Selinda in South East Zimbabwe. The area it covers makes it one of the largest protected forest areas and it has a combination of tropical and subtropical vegetation species. This forest is home to “the big tree” which is one of the largest Red mahogany trees in southern Africa and the tallest native tree in Zimbabwe. It is about 65m long and has a trunk diameter of about 4,5m at the base; it is situated at the southern part of the forest at a place called the Valley of Giants. Furthermore “the big tree” is estimated to be more than 1,000 years old.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a World Heritage Site. The majestic Victoria Falls is an obvious must do, must visit and must see destination. Victoria Falls town and resort boasts a multitude of activities which make it a great place to visit. Besides the roaring falls that stand before the raging Zambezi River which in themselves are the true reason for the visit, there are a number of other exhilarating activities that one can partake in. Bungee jumping, white water rafting, abseiling and of course the luxurious river boat cruises are all available in one place.

Kariba

The lake is among the largest man made lakes in the world. It houses a massive dam and is responsible for a flourishing ecosystem comprising of game, birds and fish. Going to Kariba is a worthwhile endeavour.

One will never be short for things to do once in this place that is clothed in the mystery of myth and folklore. Besides the large lake and the cultural depth of the Kariba, once there one can enjoy numerous activities which include the usual African experience of game viewing, a fishing trip or two and best of all, a cruise on a boat house simply living life while on the drift.

Great Zimbabwe

The reason it must be regarded as a top place is visit when you are in Zimbabwe is that it is in itself a historic tale that needs no telling. On the outskirts of the town of Masvingo, are the largest and possibly some of the oldest ruins in Africa.

The Great Zimbabwe ruins are thought to have been constructed from around the 11th century stretching into the 14th century and are the oldest ruins in the southern African region.

Taking a trip to marvel at this historical leviathan is not an experience one should simply pass by, especially those with a soft spot for archaeology and all things historical. It can’t be said that one did and experienced all the invigorating things and wonders that Zimbabwe has to offer but never saw the Great Zimbabwe Ruins; they are of course the source of the country’s name, and are an architectural wonder to behold.

Vumba

The Vumba (or Bvumba) area will surprise you with plenty of typical panoramic views. A paradise for bird lovers from all over the world. Take a stroll in the botanical garden: if you love trees and plants you will be fascinated.

The golf course at Leopard Rock is unique in the world. The Vumba mountains is another walker’s paradise, with plenty of trails. Guided bird walks are offered by local lodges. The area boasts so many spectacular hotels, that an intimate in-room proposal could be even be more romantic.

At home

What better place to ask someone to spend the rest of their life with you than in the home you’ve created together? An engagement trip is definitely a romantic gesture, but it’s not exactly subtle. So keep it simple and intimate in 2019 with a meaningful at-home proposal. If you’re hoping for the biggest surprise, proposing at home might be the best option.
