A 19-year-old Zimunya man has been slapped with a 10 year jail term by a Senior Mutare High Court judge after he was found guilty of murdering a fellow villager whom he accused of having a love affair with his girlfriend.
Michael Munapo appeared before Justice Hlekani Mwayera facing charges of contravening Section 47 (1) (a) of (b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
Senior public prosecutor, Mr Malvin Musarurwa, told the court that the suspect stabbed Blessing Mhondera with a knife on the neck following a misunderstanding over a girlfriend.
He bled profusely and died upon admission at Mutare Provincial Hospital.
A post mortem done by Dr Fungai Chitungo on September 13, 2018 revealed that the cause of death was due to massive haemorrhage.
Mr Musarurwa called on Baison Nedyere who testified that on September 11 last year he was at the Gum Tree Shop in Chitakatira when the deceased arrived in the company of David Munapo.
They met the accused person at the shop. Nedyere said the deceased asked the accused if he was having a love affair with his girlfriend Miriam Chabikwa.
The two quarrelled over the issue resulting in the suspect stabbing the deceased with a knife on the neck.
He disappeared after committing the crime.
Nedyere and other villagers then rushed the deceased to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
