MCDONALD’S is known for being a cheap and cheerful fast food company — but one woman’s meal cost her hundreds of pounds and a day in court.

Far from its usual price tag of well under £10, Katie Ritchie, from Redcar in North Yorkshire, ended up spending £395.Why? The 31-year-old was taken to court by the council for dumping the bag in an alleyway. It was found alongside some carpet, close to her home, and Ritchie as only caught because she left evidence of her address amongst her junk, GazetteLive reports. The McDonald’s bag was discovered on May 17, 2016 but the case took eight months to get to court.

Ritchie failed to show up at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 4, where she was convicted in her absence and fined £220, as well as paying Redcar and Cleveland Council’s £175 costs.

That’s one expensive McDonald’s meal.

Councillor Alec Brown, Redcar and Cleveland Council’s cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “We will take hard action against people caught dumping litter in the borough and hopefully this case should be a warning for others not to do this in the future.”

So next time your McDonald’s bag misses the bin and you can’t be bothered to pick it up, have a think about whether you can really afford it.—Mirror Online
