ZIMBABWE National Chamber of Commerce Manicaland has unveiled the nomination list of outstanding organisations and businesspersons who will compete in this year’s provincial business awards ceremony slated for Golden Peacock Villa Hotel next Friday.
The awards will be held under the theme: “Consolidating the new normal economy through policy reform.” This year’s awards will see more participants being honoured compared to previous editions since they are more than five new categories that were introduced.
These include the Rural Businessperson of the Year category which was scrapped last year as well as the Corporate Social Responsibility in Cancer Awareness and in HIV and Aids Award. “We now have the full list of nominees except for the Small-Scale Miners and Urban Local Authorities categories which we will unveil later this week. We are, however, looking forward to a successful event,” said Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce regional manageress for Manicaland and Chiredzi, Ms Perpetual Guwila.
Net-One, Nyaradzo and Tongaat Hullet have been shortlisted for the Sustainable Development Goals Champion Award, while Mrs Judith Shadaya of JBB, Mrs Chikoka of Jack and Jill, Mrs Molly Mupfunya of Milestone Group of Schools and Mrs Mugwagwa of Wimpy will battle it out in the Businesswoman of the Year category. Mr Gwenzi of Gwenzi Hardware, Mr Obadiah Musindo of Destiny of Africa Network and Mr Isaiah Musabayana of Golden Crust will face off in the Businessman of the Year category.
In the Enterprise Development award category, Mutare Polytechnic, MegaMeats and Magamba Vocational Training Centre will compete for the top honours. Africa University, Mutare Polytechnic, Zimbabwe Open University and Mutare Teachers’ College will compete for the Tertiary Institution Award, while in the Financial Institution Supporting Medium and Small-Macro Enterprises Category, banking institutions, MBCA, Agribank, CBZ, CABS, Steward Bank, NMB and FBC will battle it out.
Gonye and Sons, Markbrands Investments and Tinty’s Hardware are the nominees in the Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises category. Mr Luke Masamvu of Hauna, Mr Farisi Makumbe of Murambinda, Mr Chinonzwa of Birchnough Bridge and Mr Oliver Manyerere of Murambinda will lock horns for the Rural Businessperson of the Year award.
Four organisations, NSSA, ZETDC, TELONE and Rural Electrification Agency, will compete for the Public Enterprise award. Ms Nomsa Chiadzwa is the only female businesswoman who will compete for the Young Entreprenuer award against Mr Wellington Musevenzi, Mr Blessing Nyamundanda of Rusape, Mr Lloyd Mudzimu of Murambinda and Mr Knowledge Murigwa.
Ms Chiadzwa raised Manicaland flag high in the national finals held in Victoria Falls when she scooped the first runner-up gong in the same category last year. Mr Sydney Mutsambiwa (Tongaat Hullet), Mr Bruce Henderson (Willowton Group), Mr Kurai Matsheza (Manica Boards and Doors) and Mr Stephen Mortleman (MFS) are vying for the Business Leadership award.
In the Lifetime Achievement award category, Mr Wilson Khumbula will compete with Mr Joseph Sanhanga, Mr John Masamvu and Mr Noah Taguta, while in the Transport and Logistics award, Fairline Investments will square up against Inter Africa, Tinmac Motors and Beta Buses.
The Company of the Year category will see Cairns Foods, Nyangani Renewable Energy, Willowton Group and Mine Mart Xpress vying for the top honours. Aloe Enterprises and Destiny of Africa Network are the only two organisations battling it out in the Construction Company of the year category.
First Class Academy, Gutika Academy, Milestone Group of Schools, St Noah Group of Schools will face off in the Educational Developmental award category. In the ICT category, there are Econet, Telone, Netone, Africom and Liquid. Border Timbers, Tanganda Tea Company and Eastern Highlands Plantations will compete in the Exporter of the year: Agriculture category, while Capital Timbers, Manica Boards & Doors, Reeldon Investments and Halsted Brothers will face off in the Exporter of the year: Manufacturing category.
Leopard Rock Hotel, Musangano Lodge, Zambezi Hunters and Lodzi Hunters will vie for the Exporter of the year: Tourism award. Mutare, Makoni and Mutasa rural district councils are competing for the Corporate Governance Rural Local Authorities Award.
Mutasa, Buhera and Nyanga rural district councils were nominated for the Service Delivery Rural Local Authorities Award, while Mutare, Makoni and Mutasa rural district councils will battle it out for the Best Overall Performance Rural Local Authorities Award.
In last year’s edition, Mr John Masamvu came out tops in the Businessman of the Year category, while the brains behind Aloe Enterprises, Dr Nancy Saungweme, was the Businesswoman of the Year. Mr Joe Sanhanga scooped the lifetime achievement award.
