The Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) will soon decentralise its operations to Manicaland province, an official has said.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement meeting at The Manica Post offices last week, the Commission’s Acting Secretary, Mr Academy Bvumayi Chinamhora revealed that there are plans to open ZMC regional offices in Mutare.

“It is important for the Commission to have its presence in the provinces, including here in Manicaland as this will make our interactions with media practitioners much easier,” said Mr Chinamhora.

Currently, the ZMC only has offices in Harare.

The Manica Post Editor, Mrs Wendy Nyakurerwa-Matinde, commended the ZMC for its efforts in improving the local media sector.

“This interaction between the Commission and the media practitioners is crucial as it ensures that we are on the same page on how the media should function in keeping the nation informed,” she said.

Diamond FM Station Manager, Mr Jabulani Mangezi, echoed the same sentiments and went on to say that the country’s media reforms are making the media sector more attractive for journalists and potential investors.

Commissioner Aleck Ncube, Comissioner Dr Phillip Pasirayi and Commissioner Dumisani Mashingaidze were also part of the meeting and they all reiterated the need for the promotion of development journalism that will attract both local and foreign investors into the country’s various sectors.
