ALL is in place for this year’s Zimbabwe Teachers’ Colleges Sports Association Zone A Games set for Bondolfi Teachers’ College.

The ZITCOSA Zone A Games roar into life from March 24 to 29.

National finals will be held in Bulawayo from April 8-13.

All the colleges in the country were categorised into three zones.  Zone A comprises of Bondolfi, Marymount, Masvingo, Morgenster and Mutare teachers’ colleges. Zone B has Mkoba, Hillside and United College of Education. Zone C is made up of Belvedere, Seke, Morgan Zintec, Madziwa and Nyadire.

ZITCOSA Zone A chairperson, Joshua Matume, told The Weekender that the annual six-day event was ready to take-off.

“In our Zone, we have five colleges. That is Marymount, Bondolfi, Morgenster, Mutare Teachers’ and Masvingo. This is our preliminary round so that we can come up with teams to represent Zone A at the national finals.

“We are using the ZITCOSA Games to come up with a team that will represent our Zone at the ZITISU Games scheduled for April 8 where we will compete with athletes from other zones.

“We will compete in more than 20 disciplines and our para-athletes will compete with the main stream athletes.

“As Zone A, we are doing very well because all the five colleges managed to provide an athlete who participated in the CUCSA Games (Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sport Association) last year.

When it comes to preparations and organisation of the competition, Zone A is always ahead,” he said.

Last year, Mutare hosted the Zone A ZITCOSA Games successfully.

Competition will be held in soccer, basketball, volleyball, netball, athletics, chess and snooker among a host of other individual and team sports.  Successful participants will proceed to ZITISU (Zimbabwe Tertiary Institution Sport Union) competitions.  ZITISU winners will then progress to Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sport Association (CUCSA) competition.

CUCSA comprises of 14 countries in the Southern Africa region and Zimbabwe last hosted this competition in 2016 where nine countries were present.
