TWO Mutasa men recently appeared in court facing charges of stealing seven kilograms of electricity aluminium conductors.

Remember Saungweme (21) and his accomplice only identified as Tinashe pleaded guilty to theft charges when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe. They were remanded in custody.

The duo is being charged with contravening Section 60 of the Electricity Amendment Act, Chapter 13:19. Prosecuting, Mr Godswish Dzivakwe said on March 20, police received information that the duo was selling electricity aluminium conductors at Coldstream in Mutasa.

A team of police officers led by Detective Assistant Inspector Mlambo went to the said area pretending to be buyers. They approached Saungweme and Tinashe.

“Saungweme went to a nearby bush in Muchena Village and cut a small piece of a 50-millimetre aluminium conductor. He showed it to Detective Assistant Inspector Mlambo as a sample. He advised Detective Assistant Inspector Mlambo to come back during the night, around 11pm, to collect the aluminium conductors The police detectives went back for collection at the agreed time. That is when they arrested the duo,” said Mr Dzivakwe.

The detectives recovered 20mx50mm electricity aluminium conductors.
