THE Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) has elevated 31 officers from Herbert Chitepo Barracks in Mutare to higher ranks of major, captain and lieutenant.

The promotions which were done in terms of Section 15 3 [a] and 15 4 [a] of the Defence Act 11:02 for majors and captains, respectively, are done annually to reward hard work and fill vacant posts within the organisation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Joe Muzvidziwa urged the officers to continue working hard and realise that their promotion was the beginning of more recognition to come.

“It is important for you to realise that even the sky is not the limit when it comes to your professional growth. You should continue to work hard and you will realise that the organisation will continue to recognise and elevate you,” he said.

He added that the promotions were a sign of confidence on the officers, not only by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, but by the nation at large.

He said the officers owed it to the people of Zimbabwe to be professional and diligent in their duties.

Brig Gen Muzvidziwa encouraged the officers to “tap in to the abundant human resources in the organisation” to get clarity on issues they do not understand to avoid making mistakes.

“These promotions also signal the beginning of more work for you and you should embrace it with the open mindedness that has been set as an example by the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces,” Brig Gen Muzvidziwa said.

Among those promoted from the rank of captain to major were Majors Freedom Mhlongwa, Muwengi Simiti and Gilbert Katsande.

Cptn Tatenda Lesley Magaya, who is the formations’ clinical psychologist, Cptn Romeo Kambizi and Cptn Mercy Mugumbate, among those officers conferred with the ranks of Lieutenant.

Three officers were also promoted to the rank of Captain from Warrant Officer Class one. These were Captain Vundukai Fredrick Samhewe, Captain Kudzanai Rakata and Captain Samuel Muzanya Sithole.
