ZANU-PF Manicaland surpassed the $50 000 target during last Friday’s fundraising dinner aimed at mobilising the province’s quota for the 2016 Zanu-PF National People’s Conference to be held in Masvingo starting next Tuesday. The fundraising dinner was attended by the business community, Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial leadership and other stakeholders.

In an interview on the sidelines of the fundraising dinner, Central Committee member, Cde Supa Mandiwanzira, confirmed that the amount raised which was yet to be finalised by the time of going to Press was more than the target.

“I think this has been a great function for Manicaland. We managed to raise more than the set target. The most important thing is that the party triumphed.

“I think it is important that we look at the model that allows for continuous fundraising activities and not necessarily wait for this event on the eve of the national conference.

“It was a good get together for party members. More of these events should be held during the course of the year as they will help unite the party,” said Cde Mandiwanzira.

Speaking at the colourful event, Manicaland Zanu-PF provincial chairman, Dr Samuel Udenge, applauded the party for working hard to win the Chimanimani West by-election and urged party members to continue working together.

“We go to this year’s conference with our heads held high because of the sterling work that each and every one of us put into ensuring that we win the Chimanimani West by-election. This has proved that if we work together as one united family we can indeed achieve a lot,” said Dr Udenge.

Dr Undenge also thanked the party for maintaining peace and unity before, during and after the election.

“The Chimanimani West by-election was held in a peaceful and tranquil manner and this shamed all our detractors who always associate Zanu-PF with violence.

“We have proved as a province that we are a peaceful party that observes all the laws of this country and this really boosts our morale as we go to Masvingo for our annual conference,” he added.

Speaking at the same occasion, guest of honour, who is also the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Mandi Chimene, said Manicaland had already set the tone for the 2018 elections by the resounding success that it scored in Chimanimani West.

“If anyone thought that Zanu-PF is a spent force, then Chimanimani West should be a wake-up call for them. All the people who had doubts in their minds about the unity of purpose that exists in Zanu-PF should look at the successes that we scored in that election to realise that we are a force to reckon with.

“Chimanimani is the microcosm of what is to be the bigger picture in 2018. As a party, we go to the conference to put in to action unity of purpose as was the case in Chimanimani West and adopt the same spirit for the 2018 elections obviously with the same resounding results,” said Cde Chimene.
