A WOMAN from Mutare’s Florida medium-density suburb and her two sons have been hauled before the courts on theft charges after they allegedly withdrew $6 000 that had been mistakenly credited into her CBZ account.

Gladys Chivese (51), and her two sons, Geoffrey (28) and Tonderai Ndoro (24) denied the theft charges when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makala last week.

They were remanded out of custody to August 5 on $50 bail each.

Mr Nicholas Nhambura represented the trio while Mr John Tarisai Munyurwa prosecuted.

Allegations were that on June 15, Onismus Nyikadzino sold layers chicks to Geoffrey Ndoro for $3 000 and made $3 000 transactions through ZIPIT three times using Chivese’s CBZ bank account.

While doing the transfers the last transaction was confirmed as successful while the other two failed.

The following day Nyikadzino discovered that his account had been credited with $6 000.

He thought that the two failed transactions from the previous day had in fact been successful and that the delays might have been caused by network problems at his bank.

He contacted Geoffrey who told him that $6 000 was deducted from his mother’s CBZ bank account. Nyikadzino proceeded to make an RTGS transfer of $6 000 into Chivese’s account as refund.

However, on June 26, Nyikadzino discovered that a total of $3 000 was deducted from his account by CABS bank which led him to approach the bank where he was advised that the bank had credited $6 000 into his bank account on June 15.

He then approached Geoffrey who told him that he had withdrawn the money from his mother’s account thinking that the money had been sent by his father.
