DETERMINED to chase his wife away from their matrimonial home, a Mutasa man is resorting to physically and emotionally abusing her.
Maxwell Domboka was dragged to court by his wife, Rosemary Chiimbo who has had enough of the battering and was seeking a protection order against him.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato heard the matter.
Chiimbo told the court that she is now living in fear for her life.
“This man is always beating me up because he no longer loves me,” she said.
“He locks me up in the house and severely batters me using weapons like a wire and fern belt. At one point, he grabbed me by the neck and I sustained injuries during the attack. He also threatens to harm me and burn my certificates. I am now living in constant fear of his brutality and I beg this court to protect me.”
She also accused her husband of insulting her parents.
“Your Worship, he does not even respect my parents as his in-laws and insults them,” said Chiimbo.
Domboka admitted to abusing his wife as a way of forcing her to leave the marriage.
He accused her of witchcraft, saying he had lost affection for her.
“I no longer want to see this woman at my place, Your Worship, because I found a bottle in the house with my picture and name placed inside it,” said Domboka.
Domboka said he is not happy that his wife is refusing to have another child and this was causing the breakdown of their marriage.
“She does not want us to have another child and that is why I want to end this marriage,” he said.
Mr Chipato granted the protection order in Chiimbo’s favour.
