Below we reproduce an alleged WhatsApp conversation that took place between Clayton Masekesa and Saul Tomu’s girlfriend, Melanda Konde, prior to the incident.
When interviewed at the scene of the incident at House Number 27 Robert Mugabe Road, Hospital Hill in Mutare last Thursday, Tomu revealed that he used his girlfriend’s cell phone to lure Masekesa to his residence. He said his girlfriend had told him that the journalist was proposing to her and thus he took her cell phone, texted Masekesa pretending to be Melanda. The plan worked, resulting in the freelance journalist visiting unawares.
Tomu told The Weekender that he was furious because Masekesa, whom he works with at Mutare City Rovers Football Club, was going behind his back to see his girlfriend.
