MUTARE-BASED cricket side, Westside has won all the five matches they have played in the National Premier League so far, placing them on the summit of the eight-team log.

The other teams in the National Premier League include Gladiators, Takashinga, Lions, Great Zimbabwe, Bulawayo Athletics Club, Harare Kings, Nortonians and basement outfit, Amakhosi.

Westside coach, Square Square, said he is proud of his team’s performance and is looking forward to snatching the top gong at the end of the competition.

Square singled out Tinashe Muchawaya, Mashfoord Shungu and teenager, Fortune Mhlanga for praise owing to their outstanding performance in the matches played so far.

“Winning five matches in a row is not a joke. My boys worked hard to get to where they are today. I have a very strong team. It is a well-balanced outfit where everyone in the team can bat and also my bowling attack is very strong.

“The likes of Tinashe Muchawaya, Mashford Shungu and Fortune Mhlanga are doing very well with the ball. Our opening batsmen have been fantastic so far,” said Square.

The veteran cricket coach said he is working on the middle order to achieve complete perfection.

“The tail-enders have done good work in all the games we have been played. What we only need to work on perhaps it is our middle order. Our middle order has not been performing up to our expectations and that is what we have been working on in recent times,” he said.

Westside are set to clash against league basement outfit, Amakhosi in Harare on Sunday where they are looking forward to consolidate their lead.
