MUTARE-BASED Westside Cricket Club’s coach, Square Square, is confident that his charges will be the team to beat in the inaugural Zimbabwe Domestic T10 Cup.

The tournament started at Harare Sports Club yesterday (Thursday) and will run up to September 18.

The Zimbabwe Domestic T10 Cup will see a total of 27 matches being played between eight teams from different franchises in the country.

The tournament will use a round robin format in which all sides will play against each other twice, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals.

Speaking to Post Sport, Square said: “I am happy to be participating in the inaugural T10 tournament with a full strength side. The boys have been working hard in the nets and during weekends to perfect their game so that they can do the province proud.

“I invite fans to come and witness the fast-paced tournament of thrilling cricket as the 10-overs format is the shortest version of the game.”

Teams to participate in the T10 Tournament include Gladiators, Lions, Takashinga Patriots I, Takashinga Patriots II, Harare King Cricket Club, Great Zimbabwe Cricket Club, Bulawayo Athletic Club and Westside Cricket Club.

The league stage matches will end on September 16, with the top four sides squaring off in the semi-finals slated to take place on September 18.

The finals will also take place on the same day.

Westside will kick-off their campaign today (Friday) with a fixture against Takashinga Cricket Patriots I.

Westside skipper, John Masara said: “Following our performance in the Pro-50 Tournament, I believe we have a very good side. The team is a formidable one due to the perfect blend of youth and experience in the line-up.

“Our players have been doing very well to foster a lethal balance of a firebrand bowling attack and a fearless top order batting line-up. The return of Tendai Chatara from injury will be a major boost as we all know of the leadership attributes he contributes to the team.”

Westside Cricket Club Squad:

Tendai Chatara, Kevin Kasuza, Definate Mawadzi, Tinashe Chiwora, Tinashe Muchawaya, Prosper Mugeri, Hendricks Macheke, Victor Nyauchi, Clive Chitumba, Kudzai Sauramba, Vincent Masekesa, Frank Mtetwa and John Masara (captain).
