BAD blood now exists between two Marange brothers, with one accusing the other of marrying off his daughter against his will.
So strained is the relationship between the two that they have dragged each other to Chief Marange’s court, where Simbarashe Hambirepi is demanding compensation from his brother, Killian Hambirepi.
When the two appeared in court on Sunday, Simbarashe was fuming, accusing his brother of being a ‘two-timing snake’ who went behind his back and walked his daughter, Concelia, down the aisle.
“He handed over my daughter, Concelia, to her husband without my approval. I was not aware that my daughter was tying the knot as I stay at my farm with my second wife. I was shocked a month later when someone contacted me and told me that my brother had acted on my behalf and claimed to be Concelia’s biological father at her wedding.
“I am yet to come to terms with this because I was looking forward to walking my daughter down the aisle on her wedding day, only to be tricked by Killian. They did not inform me of my daughter’s wedding. What irks me the most is that I am still married to Concelia’s mother and she had no right to conceal such important information from me.
“Instead, with the support of Killian and other family members, they conducted the wedding behind my back. They made Killian represent me,” said the visibly angry Simbarashe.
He went further and accused his sister, Lydia Hambirepi, of causing the rift between him and his first wife, Sara Tafura.
“These guys want to destroy me and take over my family, hence all this drama. They are so jealousy of me and all my possessions. When I moved to my farm, they set my wife up with our other brother, Richard. My sister, Lydia, facilitated the two’s union.
“Richard took my wife, while Killian took my children, hence his decision to stand in my place during her wedding,” charged Simbarashe.
Killian, however, could not help but laugh in Simbarashe’s face, accusing him of lying before the court.
He advised the chief to verify Simbarashe’s mental status, saying his brother had literally begged him to stand in for him during the wedding.
“My brother is a good liar, this is why I am laughing. When the wedding date was approaching, he told me that he couldn’t be present for the occasion.
“He asked me to represent him and I did that as per his request. He is my brother and his daughter is also my daughter. In fact, I am not the one who walked her down the aisle and handed her over to her husband, it was her brothers. I just gave a speech while standing in for the father as had been instructed by Simbarashe,” said Killian.
He denied accusations that he envies his brother’s family.
Lydia also denied having facilitated the relationship between her brother Richard and Simbarashe’s first wife.
“I honestly do not know why my brother is acting in such a manner. I do not see why I would set his wife up with Richard, knowing very well that she is still married to Simba.
“If he has other issues with me, he should come out clean. I hate having my name dragged into the mud like this,” said Lydia.
Chief Marange adjourned the matter to this Sunday to allow Richard and Sara to be summoned to court.
