UNITED Methodist Church (UMC) has constructed a state-of-the-art rural primary school in Buhera in an initiative aimed at increasing access to education for younger children in remote areas.

Ngundu Primary School, which is a satellite school for Chatindo Primary School was officially opened by UMC leader Bishop Eben Nhiwatiwa last week, much to the excitement and appreciation of the local community.

More than $140 000 was injected into the project. Speaking at the official opening, Bishop Nhiwatiwa said the church built the school in partnership with Norwegian Government.

“As United Methodist Church, we have what we call Chabadza Community Development Programme which focuses on community development. We also have a partnership with Norway and they help us to source funds for various projects, one of them being the project that we have just witnessed today,” he said.

Bishop Nhiwatiwa also encouraged communities to work hard and be creative to enhance the lives of young students through education. Manicaland chiefs’ council chairperson Chief Makumbe said he was happy with the progress at the school.

“I am an engineer by profession and will do the electrical wiring and tubing for the whole school through my company. We are so grateful to the UMC for spearheading such a wonderful project in our community. We are pleased that the school is now ranked fifth in the district,” he said.

UMC renovated Ngundu Primary School’s two-roomed classroom blocks and added two new classroom blocks and teachers’ houses.

The good school infrastructure has made it a good place for the children to study and ensures empirical well-being of students.

It makes it interesting and gets the children motivated to come to school, this in turn improve the attendance and interest of students in learning. Thus, it’s important for schools to have good infrastructure to improve the performance of the students and improving the school’s system.

A good school infrastructure is important, but at the same time, it should also have emphasis on a child friendly ambience, and activity and value based learning.
