TWO Chipinge men are in trouble with the law after allegedly robbing a villager who had hired them to take him to his home.
Pardon Mashava (29) of Maunganidze Village, Chief Chamutsa, Buhera, and Kudakwashe Mushayi (40) of Birchenough Bridge Growth Point stand accused of contravening Section 26 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:33.
They were remanded in custody to today.
Chipinge magistrate, Mrs Cathrine Dzivanyika presided over the case, while Mr Edmore Mahlanganise prosecuted.
It is alleged that on December 19, 2023, Mr Jeremiah Musiiwa of Mugadza Village under Chief Mutema’s area of Chipinge met Mashava and Mushayo at Tanganda Turn-off along the Tanganda-Ngundu Highway and hired them to ferry him to his rural home.
Mr Mahlanganise said Mr Musiiwa offered to pay Mashava and Mushayi US$8 for the transport service.
“Along the way, Mashava who was driving the vehicle stopped and the duo attacked Mr Musiiwa. They robbed him of his wallet which had US$72, ZWL2 000, a Covid-19 vaccination card and a birth certificate. They left him at the crime scene and drove towards Tanganda Business Centre,” said Mr Mahlanganise.
A report was made to the police and they attended the scene.
Police managed to recover Mr Musiiwa’s particulars in Mashava’s vehicle.
