A BEER binge at a Chipinge business centre ended tragically on Monday after a 27-year-old man was fatally assaulted by his colleague.

Daniel Sofa sustained serious injuries all over the body after he was heavily assaulted by Nelson Njuwaga.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident which happened at Wedi Compound in Chief Mutema’s area.

“Sofa and Njuwaga went to Wedi Compound where they started drinking beer. An altercation over an unknown issue ensued, and they started fighting. Njuwaga assaulted Sofa all over the body. He sustained serious injuries before he became unconscious.

“Sensing danger, Njuwaga vanished from the scene before he returned 30 minutes later to check on Sofa. Efforts to resuscitate him by pouring some water on his body proved fruitless as he had already died. Nelson was arrested and is assisting police with investigations,” he said.

He urged members of the public to solve disputes amicably than resorting to violence that may lead to the unnecessary loss of lives.
