Timber plantations in Manicaland have been warned to put fireguards in their fields in preparation for the forth coming fire season.
Provincial forest extension manager Mr Philip Tom said veld fires were counterproductive.
He said it was obligatory for every property owner to have a fireguard and not setting up one was a criminal offence.
Mr Tom urged the Manicaland community to develop a tree planting culture to revitalise forests that are being destroyed by fires and deforestation.
