THREE Nyanga siblings allegedly teamed up to steal three cattle from their neighbour and sold them to unsuspecting villagers.
Gamuchirai Chaburumunda (24), Shebby Chaburumunda (18) and their 12-year-old sibling from Pukunza Village under Chief Katerere in Nyanga appeared before magistrate, Ms Notebulgar Muchineripi, facing stock theft charges as defined in Section 114 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
Ms Muchineripi remanded them in custody.
Mr Nyasha Sisinyani appeared for the State.
It is alleged that on September 24, Fanuel Peperere’s employee left the cattle grazing in the pastures unattended.
The three siblings took advantage of the employee’s absence from the grazing land and drove two black heifers and a brown cow to a secluded place.
They allegedly removed the cattle’s ear tags which were endorsed with the name and contact details of the cattle owner and hid them in their garden.
“The following day, the siblings were seen by a local villager, Mr Nyaradzo Josi, herding the stolen cattle at Mukunza Village and he suspected that they had been stolen.
“A report was made to the police on the same day. Police attended the scene, but could not locate the siblings as they had left the area.
“They were arrested two days later, and they freely and voluntarily led the police to where they had sold the beasts. The three stolen cattle, worth US$800, were recovered from Rumbidzai Chitsike, Tanaka Ngirishi and Esther Mukuzunga in Tubu Village. The three claimed that they had bought the cattle from the Chaburumunda siblings,” said Mr Sisinyani.
The ear tags with Peperere’s names and contact details were recovered from the siblings’ garden.
