The Holy Qur’an speaks about rumours

The ManicaPost

“THEY think that every cry is against them.” (Chapter 63 : verse 4).

Rumour-mongering is a very dangerous trait which definitely affects those who go about fabricating and spreading the rumours.

It is a social evil that actually arises from jealousy or envy and it must be avoided at all costs.

Going further, unfortunately in most cases, it also affects those who hear such rumours about themselves and think that this will damage their reputation, etcetera.

There are two basic remedies for the treatment of the self inflicted suffering caused by listening to rumours.

The first is to strictly screen any information that one receives and verify it and then dispose of all the false, unnecessary and harmful information.

If this is not done one may slowly lose all the goodness that one enjoys in life because many untruths will be peddled and innocent people may be implicated without any credible evidence or justification.

The second is that when people are talking about a matter, it is very dangerous for one to presume or feel that their speech is being directed at him or her. This is like a rumour from within oneself in the sense that it is only one’s imagination that creates it.

In this case it is possible that what is being said may possibly apply to such a person though it is not meant directly for him or her — it may be relating to someone else altogether!
Hence if one maintains a very broad mind and does not take the matter to heart, they will avoid anxiety, stress and ill-feelings.

Believing tales and baseless stories, imagining things that are not a reality, agonising over matters that do not really exist and allowing every person to infiltrate our minds and place there whatever they wish can have disastrous effects upon our health, well-being and contentment.

Many people suffer from self inflicted anxiety and misery which is caused by their own imagination, not from reality.
