The foolish businessman and his woes

Blabbermouth
THERE is this local businessman who made it big some years back in the motor spares industry.

He has seen better days now.

Sometime back he borrowed money from this financial institution with the idea of enhancing his business.

He got the money; it was quite a lump sum.

In his loan application he used his friend, the one who specializes in making people recover from any ailment as a guarantor which meant that in the event that he fails to pay our good human mechanic would own up the debt.

Instead of pouring the money to enhance his business as per his very purpose of acquiring the loan, our poor businessman embarked on a spending spree of unimaginable proportions.

Although he has seen many years, he subsequently turned into a red hot teenager splashing the money with women of all sizes and shapes.

He tinted his grey hair black and, in an instant, found himself in boyhood.

Word has it that he dashed to Harare International Airport and flew out of the country to spend the money in foreign lands where no one bothered him.

He was a globe trotter, but soon the tables turned.

Realising that his fat pocket had dwindled drastically, our poor brother rushed back home to seed the little left, but it was too late.

His company was already on the knees and by that time the bank was requesting to be paid its dues.

So instead of buying raw materials to aid production, he used the money left to pay the initial instalments.

He went on for some months paying on time, but the bells suddenly rang.

The debt became overdue and the interests shot five-fold surpassing the principal amount he had borrowed.

He was found between a hard surface and a rock.

The bank manager tried to make follow ups but our poor businessman was nowhere to be found.

The bank subsequently turned its barrel on the poor doctor who was caught unawares in the theatre.

Within weeks the doctor had his property attached.

It was not clear what happened afterwards but their friendship almost broke down as a result of the debt till a payment plan was reached.

Recently, apparently forgetting that he is the architect of his own downfall our poor entrepreneur is blaming everything on the prevailing liquidity bottlenecks and harsh economic climate.

Yes Blabber is aware that the sanctions imposed on the country and influx of cheap imports have badly ravaged our economy leading to several company closures, but it is far-fetched for this businessman to entirely blame sanctions on the hard times he faces.

Dear brothers and sisters, you should not forget that Blabber is also an economist.

Blabber is watching and to our tyres brother out there, do not rush to blame blabber for your sinking ship. Blabber’s long ears heard you loud and clear this other day at this business forum last week blaming Yours Truly for staying in your business and social shells.

A word of advice to our dear brother whose company has a fairer sex’s name is that those in glass houses should not throw stones. It is not a threat, but a warning
