Team Manicaland ready for Heroes Darts tourney

Manicaland province has gone a gear up in preparation for the National Darts Association Heroes tournament 2018 edition to be held in Bindura.

 

The tournament roar into life at  Bindura University of Science Education (B.U.S.E.) in Bindura, Mash Central Province from August  today (Friday) to Monday with players from the country’s ten provinces expected to descend in Mashonaland Central province.

As usual all the provinces will descend on the small town during the Heroes holiday for a four day darts event that will involve men, women and youth teams.

Manicaland has had its trials to select the teams that will represent the province in all the categories. The teams have commenced serious training.

The selection process which was held a forty- night ago saw fierce battle between the players in the Manicaland Darts league.

Fourteen men were selected for the two men teams and five ladies were selected as well for the ladies team.

The four day event will see the provinces fighting for honours in best province trophy, open singles and doubles, closed singles and doubles. Harare has been dominating in all the events with Mashonaland west coming second.

The Official Opening Ceremony will be done on Saturday morning before an open doubles and the presidential open singles games.

On Sunday, the players will battle it out in closed singles, semi finals, closed doubles and presidential open singles.

On Monday, there will be third place play off, team game final, double final, closed singles finals and prize presentation in the evening.

Manicaland province boasts of two senior male players, Caleb Sigauke Selesio Gunda who made it into the Zimbabwe National Darts Team that  will represent the country at the forthcoming Zone 6 Games in Zambia. The province will also send a youth team to the Zimbabwe National Youth Games to be played in Gweru.

Provincial organizing secretary Never Gombedza said all has been put in place for team Manicaland to shine at the tournament.

“We are ready as Team Manicaland .We held our provincial trials were held on July 21-22, leaving those who made into the provincial teams with two weeks of camping and training before traveling to Bindura for the tournament.

“Our teams are made up seasoned players like Caleb Sigauke, Selesio Gunda, just mention a few.

Melody Gezana is a household name in the ladies’ team together with tried and tested Chipo Nyasha and Petronela Mususa.

We also have a new comer, Isaac Sibiya who is the co-holder of the 2017 Manicaland Darts Chairman’s Trophy.

“We are targeting to win everything on the table in terms if medals and awards and finish at the top of all the 10 provinces.

“We have come of age. We urge the whole province to support in cash or kind and rally behind these men and women,” he said.
