A LOCAL teacher has approached the Mutare Civil Court praying that the court forces his ex-baby mama’s parents to take her back.

The teacher, Joseph Gonouya, is also claiming that his ex, Everjoice Chipongo’s parents were refusing to accept his divorce token and demanding their daughter’s full lobola first.

The pair appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato recently.

He claimed that Gonouya’s parents are demand that he pays her bride price first before divorcing her.

However, Gonouya swore that he would not pay the bride price as this means he would be solemnising their union when in actual fact he wants her completely out of his life.

“Her parents say I cannot divorce her as I never married her. We were cohabiting and she accepts that it is over between the two of us. We have a child together, but we were never married,” he said.

Gonouya also told the court that Chipongo was in the habit of locking him outside his house even during the night.

He said if he continues entertaining her, he risks losing his job as she causes commotion every time she visits his workplace.

“She also accuses me of cheating on her with fellow teachers at the school where I teach. She should be barred her from coming to Maponde Primary School where I teach because she is violent and wants to attack female teachers at the school.

“I want her out of my life for good. This should also sink into her parents’ heads that it is over between their daughter and I. I sent her to college and was renting her a room in town, but I think they have to take over from now,” he said.

Gonouya also complained of being sexually starved by Chipongo.

He said he is prepared to pay damages to Chipongo’s parents.
Chipongo, however, told the court that the homestead Gonouya wanted to evict her from belonged to his late wife.

“I will not go anywhere. He wants me gone so that he can bring in someone else. That homestead was his late wife’s and when he took me in, his uncles told him to build me my own house and he refused. He told me that the house belongs to me now, so I will not go anywhere,” she said.

Chipongo confirmed that she had some altercations with Gonouya at his workplace over infidelity allegations.

She also accused him of infecting her with a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).

“He is in love with a shebeen queen and I do not trust her, so I told him to be tested first before sleeping with me, but he refused. Later on, I discovered that I had contracted an STI from him and now he wants to discard of me just like that. I am going nowhere,” charged Chipongo.

She also said the matter was once heard at Headman Marange’s court who ordered Gonouya to pay lobola for her before divorcing her.

“I will only go after he pays the lobola for me, otherwise, we will stay together for good,” she said.

Mr Chipato granted the protection order to Gonouya against Chipongo.

He, however, told them that the order that is valid for five years will not be used to separate them or evict the other.
