The completion of the second and final phase of the Tanganda-Ngundu road rehabilitation project, which will go a long way in facilitating economic transformation in the Southern part of Manicaland and the country at large, has been hailed as a game changer.

The second phase of the project covered a 100km stretch from Tanganda Halt to Checheche Business Centre that had virtually become impassable but has now brought happiness not only for motorists passing by but for locals living along the busy highway.

Speaking at a ceremony to thank Government and various stakeholders for the work done to complete road rehabilitation works up to the 100km peg, Chipinge South Member of Parliament Cde Enock Porusingazi said now that the road was in top notch condition, products like ethanol and cotton would be moved to markets in Mutare and beyond more easily and timeously.

“Chipinge thrives on cotton and ethanol, therefore the completion of this road project means that our produce will be ferried to markets efficiently.

“Road carnage will be reduced and unnecessary transport fare hikes will now be a thing of the past. Even school pupils will be able to travel to other schools around without danger,” he said.

The legislator went on to thank the contractor Bitumen World for exhibiting high level discipline and professionalism in carrying out the project.

“Coming to our contractor Bitumen World, we are indeed very proud of you.

“You exhibited very high levels of discipline and you fitted very well into our community. I have been told that you finished this project two weeks ahead of your target. The Government will not hesitate to engage contractors like you for bigger projects in the future.”

Not so long ago, a heavily potholed and hardly impassable Tanganda-Ngundu Road had become an eyesore.

Driving along the road had become a nightmare for motorists as it meant engaging very low gears in order to cause minimal damage to vehicles while ensuring safety for passengers.

Accidents caused by the poor state of the road resulting in needless loss of lives were on the increase.
