THE Zanu PF Youth League has encouraged youths in the arts industry, regardless of political affiliation, to take part in the national talent search competition which is part of this year’s Heroes’ Day commemorations.

The competition is dubbed “National Heroes Talent Search” and is already underway.

It is running under the theme “Re-living the liberation struggle through creativity”.

According to a combo unveiled by the organisers, young people with artistic prowess in music, visual and performing arts, writing and poetry, fashion design and content creation, among other categories, are encouraged to participate in the competition.

Outstanding winners aged between 16 and 35 will walk away with recording and publishing contracts as well as US$200 and US$500 cash prizes. Zanu PF Manicaland provincial youth league chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza told The Weekender that the talent search is a platform for creative artistes to showcase their artistic prowess.

He urged youths in Manicaland to join other provinces and be part of the national talent search competition while commemorating Heroes’ Day.

“We are urging young people with different artistic prowess to be part of the competition. Artistes from across the political divide should come on board and showcase their creativeness in different categories. All their material must be inspired by the liberation struggle.

“A lot of prizes are up for grabs. The competition will be conducted with due recognition of the 16 official languages in the country.

“This is an excellent initiative as we celebrate and pay tribute to the fallen gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe who sacrificed their lives during the liberation war struggle which brought about our independence in 1980,” he said.

This year’s Heroes’ Day will be commemorated on Monday.
