TWO Chipinge men who are suspected to be some of robbers who are terrorising macadamia nut farmers have been hauled before the courts on robbery charges following their recent arrest.

The suspects Stanly Simango (27) and Bornface Sithole (31) who both reside in Masheedze Village under Chief Mapungwana were charged for contravening Section 126 (1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.

They pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Mr Joshua Nembaware on Monday. The matter will go on trial next week.

Public prosecutor  Mrs Sekesai Ncube told the court that on May 20 at around 8pm the duo hatched a plan to steal macadamia nuts at Plot number 24 Hillton Farm in Chipinge.

“The two accused who were armed with logs and machetes went to the farm and started harvesting the nuts putting them in sacks. While they were committing the crime, two security guards confronted them.

“They ran away with 5X50 bags of macadamia nuts which they put in the truck and sped off. The security guards positively identified the two accused persons and made a police report leading to their arrest,” she said.

In their defence the suspects said they did not steal anything but only trespassed into the farm.
