MUTARE Super League Cup has reached the semi-finals with three teams having qualified.The cup was launched early this year with 12 teams taking part.
So far three teams have booked their places in the semis and these include La Sakubva, Yadah FC and Tisu Anhu Acho. According to the league’s administrator, James Muhala, the semi-finals will be played on home and away basis.
La Sakubva will take on Tisu Anhu Acho, while Yadah FC will play either Sheckon Stars or Mutare South.
In the quarter finals, Yadah FC dismissed Odzi 5-0 at home and was beaten 2-3 away. Yadah won 7-3 on goal aggregate. Tisu Anhu Acho won 4-1 at home against Old Mutare before being awarded three goals in the return match as Old Mutare failed to fulfill the return leg.
Brian Mukunga’s Sheckon Stars drew 1- 1 with Mutare South in the first leg.
In the second leg, they drew 1-1 again, but the match was abandoned. A replay was organised last Sunday and it was abandoned again when Mutare South was leading 2-0.
Reached for comment, Mukunga blamed biased officiating as the cause of the abandonment.
“My boys were down, but the way the match was being handled leaved a lot to be desired. We were not happy at all with the match officials’ conduct. Our opponents were allowed to do what they wanted. We are waiting to hear from Muhala. A replay for us will do,” he said.
Muhala said he had instructed Sheckon Stars to write their report as well as match officials.
“The semis are on this weekend. We hope to watch good football as all teams have been playing top level football. As for the Sheckon-Mutare South issue, we will reach a final decision after all the parties involved have submitted their reports. So far La Sakubva, Yadah and Tisu Anhu Acho are through,” he said.
Sicho Masachi’s La Sakubva booked a semi-final spot when they made light work of Sisal FC with an emphatic 6-3 victory in the first leg before defeating them 3-2 away.
Masachi attributed the success to hard work.
“It is hard work and I want to applaud the players of working very hard. As La Sakubva our mission is to win the cup. Every tourney we play from our Under-11 to the senior team, we always want to be winners. That is the mentality we instill in all our players and it’s our legacy,” he added.
