THE breeze and the wave of the waters, the sun bathing, the swimming, the boat cruising and the exciting music from an array of deejays, as well as a date with nature are some of the activities that made the October Summer Festival held at Osborne Dam memorable.
The 36km distance from Mutare to the venue did not discourage fun lovers of all ages to converge at the venue in their numbers, while food and booze were readily available to give the event a true feel of a carnival.
Other activities such as colour run, glow in the dark, cooking competitions and horse riding added a sparkle to the event, thereby bringing historic and unique entertainment to the sleepy area.
Visitors and fun lovers, especially first timers, viewed the dam in awe, while the calm waters provided peace and tranquility.
Others took the opportunity to tour the areas surrounding the dam as they enjoyed some Kodak moments.
The lake stretches for 16km up to Odzi River and 15km along the Nyatande River tributary.
As the sun set around 6pm, the red-orange hue that permeated the horizon mesmerised many.
Pertaining the choice of the location, the organisers — ZimParks and Diamond FM — nailed it.
Security checks were on point, while the food and beer stalls were well-spaced, thereby giving revellers some ample breathing space.
Disc jockeys Spy, Meek tha Deejay, Marvel, Swat Sound and The Lync (from Rusape) were a marvel on the turntables.
Diamond FM deejays Kritic Igwe, Lampy, Speedo, Tadiwacho and Mutape Siduna, among others, took turns to interact with and entertain fun lovers on and off the stage.
Paint ball and comic dancer and entertainer, Ajigija proved popular with kids as the event turned out to be a family fun day.
Most adults remained at the venue up to around 10pm when the on fire deejays curtained off the event.
“It was refreshing. We would like to thank Zimparks and Diamond FM for a well-organised event. The venue was ideal. It is a tourism site that is so ideal for festivals like these and we managed to tour the area and enjoyed the breeze. The music from the deejays gave a soothing effect.
“We wish events like these will be held occasionally. We are also lucky that the weather was fine, especially for us who attended the event as a family,” said Mfisha who attended the event with her husband and two children.
Diamond FM’s marketing executive, Peter Madondo thanked the radio station’s listeners and other stakeholders for contributing towards making the event a resounding success.
