THE boardroom squabbles that threatened to tear Chiredzi United apart are now a thing of the past and sanity has returned to the club, says new co-head coach Dzingai Murinye. Chiredzi United were on the brink of collapse after a protracted battle for control with coach-cum-director Moses Chunga on one side and the club executive on the other.

The fiery clashes spilled into the courts of law late last week with the executive successfully applying for Chunga’s interdict from all club management activities.

The development ushered in a new technical department that has former Masvingo United and Mwana Africa goalkeeper Murinye and Hippo Valley High School teacher Tinashe Zvishiri as co-head coaches.

The two got off to a losing start on Saturday at Chishamiso Stadium where they lost 1-2 to Harare City and Sunday’s match against Buffaloes will be their second in charge. Murinye told Post Sport that the situation at the club was now calm and they were geared to start collecting points.

He said it was not surprising that players were now succumbing to fatigue, especially in the dying minutes of every match given that Chunga, in recent weeks, would stop players from training as and when he deemed fit.

“We used to have a coach who would stop players from training as and when he sees it fit to do so. We did not have any meaningful training during the past month.

“This is the reason we now have players succumbing to fatigue in the dying minutes of every match. However, we are working on the players’ fitness. In fact, there is noticeable improvement. It is good that sanity has returned and we are now focusing on improving our performance on the field of play,” he said.

Moses “Bambo” Chunga was barred from sitting on the Chiredzi FC technical bench as the boardroom squabbles at the embattled Lowveld side rage on.

A court interdict sought by the club’s executive bars Chunga from interfering with the club’s affairs and the legendary coach did not witness the loss to Harare City.
