A MARANGE man who allegedly killed two people, including his ex-lover for rituals to enhance his grocery businesses, has vanished from his home after being ordered by Chief Marange to appease the victim’s avenging spirits haunting his family.

The Mutenda family of Marange is on the receiving end of the two avenging spirits — identified as Jonasi Dube of Tamandai, in Chipinge and Chenaimoyo Mupidze of Zimunya.

The avenging spirits are allegedly manifesting through Charles Mutenda’s nephew — Simbarashe (23).

To demonstrate their vengeance and seriousness, the avenging spirits have rendered Simbarashe immobile by paralysing his limps.

As a result, he is always crawling, leaving his grief-stricken parents pushing for corrective action.

As a result, Never Mutenda dragged his brother, Charles to Chief Marange’s community court where he was ordered to appease the avenging spirits which have been haunting his family over the past two years.

The court reached the verdict after consulting a number of traditional and faith healers with the affected family — who pointed an accusing finger at Charles as the one behind the ritual killings.

They advised Charles to appease the victims.

However, Charles vehemently denied participating in the ritual murders and chose to disappear from his home.

This compelled Chief Marange to declare him a fugitive from justice and deployed his aides to track him down.

“We are planning to engage the services of the police because we usually work with them. We will not let him go scot-free when it was proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he is the one who killed these people whose avenging spirits are wreaking havoc in his family. He confessed his sins before me and all the spiritual healers we consulted. I am shocked that he is now denying ever confessing and is now on the run,” he said.

Chief Marange said Charles risks being banished from the area if he remains a fugitive and refuses to appease the avenging spirits.

Dube’s avenging spirit claims that he was killed by three people, two of them already dead.
The spirit claimed the two died as revenge of Dube’s brutal murder.

The spirit claims that Mutenda was among his alleged murders who harvested part of his private parts for wealth enhancing rituals.

“He had shops and tuckshops that started doing well after my death. My privates were used to enhance his money-spinning venture. They are the ones that have been enriching him all these years, a reason why I did not seek vengeance then.

“I did not want him to appease me with the money he got through the use of my private parts. I waited until expiry of the power of ‘my tools’. Now that he is broke, I am here to expose him,” claimed the spirit which manifested at the community court.

Mupadze’s spirit also manifested and narrated that she was in love with the man who eventually took her life.

“He was my boyfriend when we were in Mutare. He tricked me into moving with him to Rusape. He owed me money, but when I asked about it, he killed me in Rusape. If he is denying this, ask him where he left the bed that we shared in Rusape. He killed me on that bed and later sold it,” claimed the spirit.

Simbarashe’s father also said the spirits were haunting his cattle.

He said his brother, Charles previously had cattle that everyone admired, but was left with nothing after they all died of an awkward paralytic disease.

“After his last cow died, spirits started haunting and paralysed my son. We are lucky that he has received help from traditional healers who negotiated with the avenging spirits, and he is doing well now.

“However, the spirits are yet to be appeased and threatening to kill all my sons if nothing is done,” he said.

The avenging spirits are also attacking Charles’ daughters who were all mysteriously divorced.

Never’s wife, Sarah Kampira said Charles’ disappearance left them stranded on what course of action to take.

“He should come back so that we chart the way forward and appease these spirits. I am now afraid that my son’s condition could worsen, leading to his death if Charles does not return,” she said.
